In the 2nd half of January our MV RollDock Storm transported the Jan de Nul split hopper barge “Galilei 2000’ from the warm Port of Spain (Trinidad and Tobago) to the ice cold Reykjavik (Iceland).
The contract was awarded just before Christmas so there was little time for voyage preparations. After seafastening was completed Rolldock Storm departed to Reykjavik Iceland. A few times the vessel had to deviate from her original course due to high seas of more than 9 meter. Eventually Rolldock Storm arrived 1 day earlier than planned, this due to favorable winds from the South.
In Reykjavik the temperature was slightly lower, -4 C instead of the +29C in Port of Spain. Despite this the crew removed the seafastenings according schedule and the day for discharge was set.
For the Port of Reykjavik this was a special operation, so 3 camera crews were present to witness the discharge. Also the quay was filled with locals who were interested in this operation. Everything went according plan and Galilei 2000 was safely moored behind Rolldock Storm after discharging.
